Meet Justine; a self taught Glasgow maker, who hand paints each piece herself with love and care…
finding peace in immersive woodland walks
the calming rhythm of the tide
and the wonder of skies at dawn, dusk and night
being still, looking, listening, absorbing…
The sense of flow from these experiences becomes embodied in each hand painted piece,
as what’s inside me interacts in the moment with the vibrant paints to create something magical; each piece is therefore unique.
If ever I feel stuck I like to pause and imagine someone enjoying wearing the jewellery. Connecting back to the idea of creating beautiful pieces for people to wear spurs me on to get over any hurdles.
I’ve been finding joy in the ‘flow experience’ of metallic and glass paints for over 10 years now,
having first started by making cards and decorations for family, friends and colleagues. I now work full time on Flow Creativity, having a left a long and rewarding nhs career in 2022. Read more about my early creative journey in the Blog “How it all began”.
So what else is involved in my process?
Well once the paint is dry (which takes 2-3 days), I apply a layer of resin which protects the paint, gives a shine and enhances the quality of the pieces.
People often think my work is glass until they pick it up.
The resin takes 3 days to cure; a process worth waiting for!
Then it’s time to get my jewellery tools out to attach chains on pendants or to make up earrings.
The metal I use is something I’ve spent time researching and understanding
The plated metals I use are mostly made of brass; a better metal in terms of skin allergies. The sterling silver metal is recycled where possible. Read more about the metals in my Blog “Metals and Materials”
So, where else can you see more of this lovely jewellery?
I love the experience of craft markets; it’s so special to meet and chat with people and hear directly what people think of the designs. You can see craft market dates in the Craft Market Page (find this in main Menu) Flow Creativity Jewellery is also in a number of stockists (find the Stockist page in the main Menu)
Have a look at the Jewellery Gallery/Home Page for current lines. And see more details of each piece in the online Etsy Shop.
